I bought Sims 3 and the xpac Sims 3 High-End Loft for my GF. I installed it on my comp and it keeps crashing to desk top. Its extremely annoying considering I cant locate the problem and fix it. I am runnig Crossfire X Radeon HD 4830′s … 80 gig hard drive … p5k motherboard … Intel Core 2, 6600 @ 2.40ghz … 2.41 GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM .. running Windows XP professional Serv Pack 2
WTF could the problem be ? Im about to get windows 7 from my friend … any suggestions ??

hey,
i had this issue too ended up being some files that i had to remove, from memory it was the ones in user documents left over from sims2 maybe….
if you ahve any content at all downloaded or from another game remove it (backup first of course) then try and restart the game.
game works perfectly on windows 7 pro X64 (better than xp in my opinion) so that won,t be an issue.
good luck

Hey tarot thanks for responding
I reformatted my comp and put only sims 3 on it .. user documents folder is where your files were? if you can semi walk me through it .. that would be great!

ok
when you install it should setup a folder called sims3 in the
my games folder in my documents (works the same in xp as it does in vista/win7 *basically*
if you delete the content in the sims3 folder then start the game it should start up right.
this is what i did.
BUT
if you are doing it froma clean format it may not be that.
it may be acting up because of the xfire setup so go grab the 10.2 drivers from ati AND the applications setup
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp
driver sfor xp and
applications profiles.
there isnt one for xp but that *should* work.
give that a try and see how you go

so what you are saying is go into the electronic arts folder in my documents .. then click sims 3 folder and delete everything in it and start the game?? Also when i d/l the 10.2 drivers for ATI .. seems to give an application install error .. but if i take away the TECHNOLOGIES in the path name .. it goes through .. but when i restart it .. my comp keeps shutting itself off so i have to restore it to when the comp worked. its weird.

http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game%20Help:Sims_3_Loading_Crashes
found this which is a better explanation of what i said about sims 3
as for the drivers do a full uninstall of the drivers you had and also some people seem to have luck disabling one of the video cards instlling the drivers then renabling the card and install for that one.
another thing that can cause it is a power supply that is not up to the task , rule that out by taking one card out and seeing what happens.
xfire is black magic i swear
